Today almost all the Apple users jailbreak their devices as they know the best outcomes of having a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. After the latest publicly available jailbreak iOS 10.2, few jailbreak teams were successful in demonstrating some jailbreak versions such as jailbreak iOS 11, iOS 10.3.2, and jailbreak iOS 11.1.1 on iPhone X by Keen labs, jailbreak iOS 10.3.1 by famous Pangu team, and jailbreak iOS 11.2.1 by Alibaba security researching team. But no other teams were able to jailbreak iOS 11.1.2 and therefore, Abraham Masri aka CheesecakeUFO started digging to jailbreak iOS 11.1.2 which has now been successful as Panga jailbreak. A new start of another jailbreak name, we’re going to write down a few important facts about Panga jailbreak here.
What is Panga Jailbreak?
Panga jailbreak which is also known as panga is a proof-of-concept for jailbreak iOS 11-11.1.2 with Cydia payload. This is a successful outcome of a hard work of Abraham Masri aka cheesecakeufo, developer of the Saigon jailbreak and Houdini. This is all about a semi-jailbreak on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch which has been released as a developer only jailbreak solution by utilizing the async_wake exploit of Ian Beer, xerb codesigning work, and Jonathan Levin and CoolStart’s binaries and libraries. For the record, here is the list of things that Panga jailbreak does:
- tfp0 (by @i4nbeer)
- patched version of bootstrap
- AMFI codesigning stuff (by @xerub)
- PoC jailbreak daemon to inject a given set of processes
- able to install few packages from multiple sources (fixed dpkg is 70-80%)
The average user doesn’t need to use IPA for panga jailbreak and therefore, there’s no such a thing yet. If you’re in a hurry to test it anyway, you’ll have to compile its XCode project by yourself. By the way, the developer is planning to fix the HTTP connection error while refreshing sources in Cydia and improve the jailbreak daemon in the future.
Panga Jailbreak Compatible versions and devices
Panga jailbreak is a project for research of jailbreak stuff and it is compatible with all iOS 11, iOS 11.0.1, iOS 11.0.2, iOS 11.0.3, iOS 11.1, iOS 11.1.1, iOS 11.1.2 versions at the moment. As this is only made as a research project, for now, no-one concerns about the compatible devices list but, it will work on all the iOS devices which runs iOS 11-11.1.2. However, the developer has already confirmed the compatibility of iPhone 7 and iPhone X.
What’s about Panga Jailbreak iOS 11.1.2?
The iOS 11.1.2 jailbreak has been developed by Masri by considering the Ian Beer’s tfp0 iOS 11.1.2 exploit, xerub codesigning stuff, and Jonathan Levin and CoolStart’s binaries and libraries. This is a successful result of a hard work but for now, it works as a partial jailbreak. On the other hand, John Levine is also working on jailbreak iOS 11.1.2 with a better approach and you’ll be soon meet up with his jailbreak release.
Some comments in the Reddit thread have revealed that some users have used the panga jailbreak but, it hasn’t been successful with everyone. So if you’re planning to download Panga jailbreak, you’ll have to wait for some time so it can be more stable. As this is just a research only project, for now, it’s better to be patient until it gets more stable or to iOS 11.1.2 jailbreak to be released by John Levine.
